Everything in the world of graffiti in Los Angeles and sometimes around the world. I document graffiti and graffiti creators or artists and try to describe the art of graffiti.
Hi Steve,
I’m a local freelance Director of Photography. I’m working with a producer friend (and former graphic arts gallery owner) to shoot a submission for a WGBH (PBS) video on the 08 Presidential Election. I am curious if you might know of any current, local LA graffiti that embodies political concerns or issues that might relate to the upcoming election. I would be very interested in meeting and shooting any artist who’s incorporating these type themes into their work, either candidate or issue-oriented.
Any input or contacts would be much appreciated. I shoot in HD on a P2 format and would be happy to give any artist a DVD copy of the footage we shoot.
Thanks much,
Dana Hopper

Regarding the post by “Graffa,” be cautious; with no identification as to who they really are, it could be a sting operation for all I know.

Hello, I would like to introduce myself, I am a volunteer with the Art-4-Action, Paint not Prison, program. I was reviewing your website and the type of work that you do. I was hoping you would be able to offer some guidance, education and possible participation, should you be interested, in this program.
A little background, Paint not Prison is a community organizing and beautification project which engages local youth, including some on probation for graffiti offences, with mentors and artists. Participants are trained in art history and theory of the different kinds of media used to create art. The culmination of the project is a mural production done by the participants.
As graffiti art enhances a community I was hoping that you would be able to donate some time or supplies to this program. I would like the participants to see the beauty and the true essence graffiti art can achieve. As I mentioned above I am a volunteer and have a lot to learn myself, but I believe in what this program is aiming to achieve.
Please feel free to contact me at any time my email is tashah50@yahoo.com. For more detailed information on the program please visit http://www.arts4action.wordpress.com, as I might not be giving it justice. Any of your time or assistance is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I am currently a senior at Whittier College, in the midst of writing my senior project for my Sociology major about female graffiti artists and their experiences as graffiti artists. I am hoping to writem more specifically about why graffiti has evolved into a gender-specific activity that is dominated by the male sex and what is different between female done graffiti work and male work. Thus, I am writing here to see if any female and/or male graffiti artists would be interested in being interviewed on the phone or via email or in person, and everything can be done anonymously.
Thank you so much,
Amía
Hi,
I’m currently writing an art assignment for graffiti artists and I’m not having any luck finding actual artists. I can find amazing murals but have no idea who created them. The information I would need would be: artist name, title of art, dimensions etc. If anyone can help I’d be extremely grateful!
Thank you.

Just a quick note… C2D crew did not come out of DP. The C2D crew was established in the early 80’s. Founders were Draze, Alpha, Iris (Rakaa of Dilated Peoples) and Tez (Black Silver). Several years later, Some new members were added to the c2d family. Including Dazzle and myself (odin). During the time we had been asked to join by Iris-Rakaa, I was pushing DP crew that was started by Me (odin) and Gamer . Both of us were OTR and we wanted to do more Graffiti art pieces instead of focusing on Bombing. Other members later joined DP in the early 90’s such as DS1 (Fly i.D.), Kef… Acme & Precise (SH), Meck (Fly i.D./CBS) and several other members. Later, some departed from DP due to artistic differences. Both DP and C2D do share a connection of friendship, but are both very separate groups of artist.
C2D is Create To Devastate…Founded in 1984
DP is Def Productions… Founded in 1989
Hello Steve:
I’m a graduate student at Loyola Marymount University majored in Film Production.
We are now doing a Public Service Video on the topic of huffing and we are looking for a professional graffiti artist who would like to be part of the project, which is a 30s – 40s PSA.
I’m wondering if you know someone who would be interested int this project. Could you share some information with me? And here’s a brief introduction of the project.
Topic: Inhaling – According to a 1995 report by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the most serious inhalant abuse occurs among children and teens. Inhalant users inhale vapor or aerosol propellant gases using plastic bags held over the mouth or by breathing from a solvent-soaked rag or an open container.
We will send the script to the one who are interested.
The shooting location is LMU Film Stage. The shooting time is only one day. We plan to shoot this project in the middle of March.
If you know anyone who might be interested, please let me know.
Thank You So Much !
Best

Hello,
I’m a ninth grader doing a journalistic report on graffiti art to explain that it is more than just pesky scribbling on walls, but a true art form. Since this is a journalistic piece I will want to know your backstory with graffiti, who inspired you, the trials and tribulations you faced, etc. Please CONSIDER interviewing me over the phone or by e-mail. The time frame for the completion of this report is two weeks, so reply A.S.A.P. if you are interested.
My name is Nate Klein and I represent Inside Studios on behalf of MSN. MSN is contracting us to film a 12 week special on amazing street performers in the Los Angeles area.
A little bit about ourself as well as the project:
We began as a YouTube production company with several extremely successful channels ranging from cooking shows to animated productions and have now been hired by MSN to produce and shoot their newest series titled “From The Streets.”
We have been given the green light to produce 18 unique episodes, each featuring a different type of talent (musician, contortionist, dancer, etc.). Each episode will be around 3 minutes long and will be featured on MSN’s video homepage which can be seen by clicking on this.
MSN is the 4th most visited site in the United States and receives over 115,000,000 unique visitors per month.
We have already shot 3 episodes in Venice, Santa Monica and Korea Town that have been centered around musicians, jugglers, and contortionists and we would like to have an artist as our next featured talent.
If you or anyone you know are or may be interested or would simply like to hear more about the project, please email me ASAP and we will get things moving.
Good afternoon,
I will be in the LA area during the last week of October. Do you know any graff-related events happening during that time in the area?
thanks.
hello – KNBC TV would like to speak with you about a street art story. Please email me if you are interested. Than you, Angie

Dear SGrody:
I happened upon this website looking for a specialized tour of Graffiti Art in LA. My 11th Grade Contemporary Composition English students are working on a L.A. The Unread City which is a look at writers who have highlighted particular experiences and themes connected to Los Angeles. We’ve been looking at art as visual text and looking at Graffiti as Art vs Vandalism.
I’d love to have the students visit some of the places here in LA that were the hot spots for the Graffiti movement in the West Coast. They are reading Ruben Martinez’s GOING UP IN LA and he traces the lives of a few graffiti artist in East LA – the WCA, and various other “Bombing squads” from the early to late 90s.
Can we see what we can do?
Sincerely and hopeful for what might be!!!
Mr. C
